About JSS3 Physical and Health Education Scheme of Work

In the third year of Junior Secondary School, JSS3, Physical and Health Education encompasses various aspects of physical fitness, sports, and health education. Through activities like athletics, team sports, gymnastics, and learning about topics such as nutrition and personal hygiene, students are equipped with vital skills and knowledge essential for their overall well-being.

P.H.E study in JSS3 helps prepare students for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). By participating in physical activities and gaining insights into health-related subjects, students develop crucial life skills and habits that contribute to their overall academic success and personal growth. Moreover, P.H.E fosters qualities like teamwork, discipline, and resilience, which are not only beneficial in academic settings but also in real-life situations.

The inclusion of P.H.E in the JSS3 curriculum serves as a cornerstone in preparing students for the challenges they may encounter during the BECE and beyond.

Assessment Guide

The crowning event for Jss3  and the Junior Secondary school as a whole is the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which is taken mid-third term. The assessment methods for Physical and Health Education include written examinations, which may consist of multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions, and essay-type questions. These exams are conducted in a controlled environment to ensure fairness and integrity.

Additionally, practical assessments may be included which assess students’ ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical tasks.

Furthermore, continuous assessment, which involves periodic tests, assignments, and projects conducted throughout the academic session, also contributes to the overall BECE assessment. This allows for an all-around evaluation of students’ performance and progress over time.
