About West African Examination Council (WAEC ) Syllabus

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) is a body in charge of conducting external examinations for students in West Africa.

It was established in 1952, and the very first exam was conducted the next year. The main aim of the exam is to assess your understanding of various subjects based on the given curriculum. WAEC also aims to promote educational excellence, integrity, and fairness while assessing your academic achievement.

Countries under the body include Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia and Liberia.

For the WAEC examinations, you are expected to pick 9 subjects including Mathematics, English, Civic Education and any trading subject(eg Data Processing, Catering & Craft, Dyeing & Bleaching, etc). The remaining subjects should be chosen based on your interests, strengths and relevance to your preferred undergraduate degree.

If you plan to study abroad, do not panic or neglect WAEC because your WAEC results can also be used for your undergraduate studies in countries like USA, Canada, UK, Germany and the rest of them.

Steps to Excel in your WAEC Examination

To excel in your WAEC examinations, you should take the following steps:

  1. Study your syllabus: You must study your syllabus for all the subjects you will be writing. Focus on all topics outlined in the WAEC syllabus for each subject.
  2. Practice Past Questions: Regular practice with your past questions will help you become familiar with the format of the subjects.
  3. Read To Understand: Alot of students believe cramming a day before is the best way to study but the best way is to read and understand what you have read.
  4. Time Management: Practice how to manage your time for all subjects. You can use your past questions and a timer for this.
  5. Revision: Finally, ensure you revise after reading to make sure what you have read sticks.

Follow these 5 tips above and you can be sure that your exam will be like a walk in the park for you.
