Government, as a subject in senior secondary school, is the study of the organization, functions, and operations of government systems and political institutions. It covers a broad range of topics designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of how societies are governed, how public policies are formulated and implemented, and the roles and responsibilities of citizens within a political system.
This subject aims to equip students with knowledge about their roles as citizens, the workings of government institutions, and the principles of democracy and governance. Through this subject, students will gain insights into the Nigerian constitution, political parties, electoral systems, and the significance of active civic participation, preparing them to be informed and responsible citizens.
By studying Government in SSS2 using the Lagos state unified scheme of work, students gain insights into the workings of their government, the importance of governance, and the role of citizens in shaping and sustaining a democratic society.
At the end of SSS2, students can;
SS2 Government assessments include written exams, assignments, presentations, continuous assessments, group projects, and field reports. These methods ensure students gain both a piece of theoretical knowledge and practical understanding, preparing them for active participation in political and governmental processes.
Grading follows a scale from A to F, with A representing excellent performance, typically scoring around 70% or 80%, and F indicating failure, usually below 50% or 45%.
