About BECE Arabic Syllabus

This syllabus is a guide to candidates who want to sit for the BECE Arabic exam to know what to study, and the questions and marking scheme to expect. This syllabus, which is drawn from the 9-Year Basic Education Curriculum, is designed to assess a candidate’s proficiency in Arabic communication

Aim & Objectives

The main goal of the syllabus is to assess the candidates’ listening, conversational, and reading skills. The candidates will be expected to have knowledge of Arabic culture, to evaluate the candidates’ comprehension of basic Arabic phrases and vocabulary, and to assess the candidates’ spoken Arabic proficiency.

Sections & Marking Guide

The BECE Arabic exam consists of two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Below is the breakdown of what each paper contains.

Paper 1

Paper consists of sixty multiple-choice questions. There will be a one-hour duration to answer the questions. Questions will be set from Noun (12 questions),  Arabic poem(12 questions), Words and meaning(twelve questions), Composition(12 questions) and Verb(12 questions). Making it a total question.

Paper 2

Paper 2 consists of sixty multiple-choice questions that will be answered in one hour. The questions will be coming from the following area; 

  • Comprehension I: Importance of Arabic language-12 questions
  • Comprehension II: Short passage-12 questions
  • Comprehension III: House utensils-12 questions
  • Comprehension IV: Importance of reading-12 questions.

Note: Both exams assess proper knowledge of how to use genders, numbers, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, verbs, and spelling in Arabic in relation to the comprehensive syllabus.

BECE Grading Stage

The grades that were used are A, B, C, P, and F. They will be listed below in order of merit.

  • A-Distinction(Highest Pass Grade)
  • B-Very Good
  • C-Credit
  • P-Pass
  • F-Fail
