About BECE Edo Syllabus

This Syllabus is designed for candidates whose L1 (Mother Tongue) is Edo This Syllabus is derived from the 9-year Education Curriculum. To aid the proper understanding of the question set, Candidates who want to sit for this exam are encouraged to know how to speak the Edo Dialect fluently.

This syllabus is for L1 speakers(i.e Candidates whose mother tongue is Edo Language). divided into two Papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2.

Aim & Objectives

This exam aims to test the candidate’s ability how read, write, and comprehend the Edo language, it will also expect them to show creativity in their composition. The candidates are also expected to demonstrate the Edo culture, customs, and values using correct sentences in the Edo Language.

Sections & Marking Guide

The BECE Edo examination consists of two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Each paper consists of sixty multiple-choice questions and the time frame allocated to it is one hour. Making it a total of two hours for both papers. Below is the breakdown of how the questions are graded for each paper:

PAPER 1:

Paper 1 comprises sixty multiple choice questions in which 5 questions each will be set from two comprehension passages of about 150 words, 5 questions will be set under composition, 25 questions will be set from Grammar, 10 questions will be set from Sound system (Phonology), 5 questions will be set from orthography, 5 from translation making it 60 questions in total.

PAPER 2:

Paper 2 comprises 60 multiple choice questions in which 15 of the questions will be derived from Oral literature, 5 from Prose I, 5 from Prose II, 5 from Drama I, 5 from Drama II, 5 from Poetry, and 20 from Culture and Tradition making it a total of 60 questions.
