Writing Commerce in JAMB Exams

The exam will test your knowledge of business operations, how to make business decisions, manage resources, and adapt to economic changes. If your career path lies in business, marketing, management, economics, and international trade, you may have to write Commerce in your JAMB UTME exams.

Marking Guide

The JAMB exams has a total of 180 questions. Use of English is 60 questions while the other 3 subjects will be 40 questions each.  All subjects aside the Use of English is graded 2.5 marks.
 
For example:

If you got 30 questions correctly in JAMB use of English, your mark will be 30/60 × 100 = 50. 

If you got 28 questions over 40 in your Commerce exam,  the calculation will be 28 x 2.5 = 70% (in percentage).

If you have 30 in Accounting and Economics, it’ll be 30 × 2.5 = 75

So let’s add it all: 50 + 70 + 75 + 75 = That’s 270 over 400.

Objective

The aim of this JAMB Economics Syllabus for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), is to prepare the candidates for the Board’s examination. It is designed to test their understanding of the course objectives, which are to:

 

(1) Acquire the basic knowledge of Commerce;

(2) Examine the relationship between Commerce and other related fields;

(3) Apply the principles of Commerce in the Nigerian economy and

(4) Appreciate dynamic and positive changes in commercial activities

(i) Factors, characteristics, and rewards (land, labour, capital, and entrepreneur)
(ii) Division of Labour and specialization
(iii) Types (primary, secondary and tertiary)

Candidates should be able to:
(i) identify the Factors of Production and their rewards;
(ii) distinguish between Division of Labour and Specialization;
(iii) classify the types of production.
4TRADE

(i) Retail trade:
– Types of retailers
– Functions of retailers
– Factors to be considered in setting up retail trade
– Trends in retailing (branding, self -service, vending machines, the use of luncheon, fuel vouchers, etc)
– Advantages and disadvantages of retailers

(ii) Wholesale trade:
– Types of wholesalers (merchant, agent, general, etc)

b. Foreign trade

(ii) Types of capital (share capital, capital owned, authorized (capital, issued capital, called-up capital, paid-up capital, liquid capital, working capital, and owners’ equity)
(iii) Calculation of forms of capital, profits (gross and net), and turnover

(i) Objectives and functions of trade and manufacturer’s associations (Cocoa Farmers’ Association, Garri Sellers’ Association, Poultry Farmers’ Association, etc.)

(iii) Organizational structure (line, line, and staff, functional, matrix, and committee)
(iv) Functional areas of business (production, marketing, finance, and personnel)

(iv) Second-Tier Securities Market, (listing requirements, types of companies for the market, advantages and operating regulations of the market.)

(i) state the importance and functions of the Stock Exchange;
(ii) identify the different securities traded on the Stock Exchange;
(iii) analyse the procedure of transactions and speculations on the Stock Exchange;

Frequently Asked Questions About JAMB Commerce Exam

How is the JAMB Commerce Score Calculated?

Asides from The Use of English, each question in the remaining 3 subjects is graded 2.5 marks. Hence, the three subjects carry 300 marks. For example: If you get 28 questions right in your Commerce exam, the calculation will be 28 x 2.5 = 70% (in percentage).

What is the allocated time for JAMB?

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam is a two-hour exam. But we would advise you to spend at most 30 mins on your Commerce paper so you can have enough time to come back and cross-check.

How do i prepare for JAMB Biology exam?

Should I do Commerce in my JAMB?
