About SS1 Physics Scheme of Work

In junior secondary school, Basic Science gives students a broad understanding of the natural world, including the basics of physics, chemistry, and biology. When students move to Senior Secondary School 1 (SSS1), the focus shifts to Physics which is one of the specializations in the science class.

At this level, students learn core Physics concepts like mechanics, heat, light, electricity, and magnetism. Through theoretical teachings, practical demonstrations, and hands-on experiments, they gain insights into the functioning of the physical world.

The Lagos state unified scheme of work for Physics aims to nurture critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and scientific inquiry. By applying mathematical principles to real-life situations, learners develop a comprehensive understanding of how theory connects with observation. The study of Physics in SS1 extends beyond classroom boundaries to practical applications in daily life, technology, and industry.

In essence, Physics study in SS1 acts as a stepping stone for further academic and professional pursuits in the sciences by providing students with essential foundational knowledge for their future endeavors.

Assessment Guide

In senior secondary school 1, students are assessed in Physics based on the school’s prerogative. However, typically, they are evaluated through tests or quizzes (Continuous Assessment Tests), practical exercises, and end-of-term exams.

Grading follows a scale from A to F, with A representing excellent performance, typically scoring around 70% or 80%, and F indicating failure, usually below 50% or 45%.
