About Cultural and Creative Arts Scheme of Work for Primary 2

The cultural and Creative Art for Primary 2 covers two broad themes. The themes which are Culture and Craft have the following topics under them. 

Culture; Traditional songs, traditional dance, festivals, melodic pattern of traditional song etc. Craft; Shapes, types of object and shapes, colour, mixing and organisation of colours, introduction to craft making, designing patterns using basic shapes, line and space of the staff, with the first seven patterns of alphabet clef etc.

These topics are expressive topics, so the classes are expected to be interactive and lively, educators as well as the pupils each have their role to play in the achievement of the objectives.

1READINESS TEST
SHAPES
By thc end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i..identify shapes of objects in/outsidc the classroom;
ii. draw different basic shapes and label correctly;
iii. identify the shapes with similar real objects around them.
E.g. Orange, Desk, Cup, Tin, Notebook etc.
2TYPES OF OBJECTS AND SHAPES
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. distinguish objects of different sizes in/outside the classroom;
ii. draw objects of various sizes and shapes (small and big);
iii. identify types and size of objects around them. E.g.
small chair, big chair, small cup, big cup, big and small rectangle etc.
3COLOURBy the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. explain and trace origin of colour;
ii. identify the basic colours (Red, Yellow and Blue) in/outside the
classroom;
iii. relate the basic colours with objects in/outside the classroom.
4Originasation of colour
-Basic colours
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. mix basic colours e.g. Red, Blue, Yellow to get secondary colours;
ii. identify secondary colours in/outside the classroom;
iii. form a colour wheel, showing the basic and secondary colours.
5COLOUR MIXINGBy the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. explain colouring and functional artwork e.g. Cup, Basket, Pot etc;
ii. identify some functional artworks in/outside the classroom;
iii. draw and cologr functional artworks
6TRADITIONAL SONGSBy the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. explain traditional songs and give examples;
ii. identify some Nigerian traditional song;
iii.state some uses of Nigerian traditional song;
iv. Sing Nigerian traditional song .
7TEST/MID-TERM/OPEN DAY
8TRADITIONAL DANCEBy the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. explain traditional dance;
ii.identify traditional dance in Nigeria e.g. Gada, Atilogwu etc;
iii. discuss the different occasions of performing ffem.
9IMPORTANCE OF MUSICBy the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. explain the meaning of music; identi someson thatare
ii. used to teach in the classroom;
iii. discuss the use and importance ofmusic.
10INTRODUCTION TO CRAFT MAKINGBy the end of the lesson pupils should be able to:
i. explain what is craft,
ii. identify types of craft e.g. paper craft, fabric craft, woven craft
in/outside the classroom;
iii. state the uses of craft in/outside the classroom;
iv. list some materials in crafts making

mache etc.
2-3DESIGNING PATTERNS USING BASIC
SHAPES
By the end ofthe lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. explain basics shapes;
ii. identify and draw basic shape like triangle, square etc;
iii. explain what patterns are;
iv. demonstrate how to use basic shape
4-5MUSICSTAFF (STAVE)end ofthe lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. explain music or stave;
ii. list the uses of staff or stave;
iii. sing the school anthem/ national anthem,
6COLOURING
PATTERNS OF BASIC SHAPE
By the end of åe lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. expIain what is colouring;
ii. list some basic shapes with suitable colours;
iii. explain what colour are:
iv. demonstrate how to apply colours on shapes.

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. identify the 1st to 7th letters of the English alphabets as musical
alphabets A, B, C, D, E, F, G;
ii. read the seven letters of English alphabets;
iii. draw the treble and bass clef
10PAPER CRAFT MAKINGBy the end of the lesson, pupils hould be able to:
i. explain what is paper crafts;
ii. list types of paper crafts e.g. fan, kite, aeroplanc, flower, box ctc,;
iii. list the materials and uses of paper crafts;
iv. demonstrate how to make paper crafts,

i. explain traditional festival;
ii. State emmples of traditional festivals and where they are
practiced;
iii. list the things associated with traditional festival;
iv. list the value associated with traditional festival.
6THE TREBLE STAFFBy the end ofthe lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. what is treble staff
ii. list the uses of treble staff;
iii. sing songs about eduation. “Eko dara pupo”;
iv. draw the treble clef on the staff
7TEST/MID-TERM/OPEN DAY
8THE BASS STAFFBy the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. explain what is bass staff;
ii. list the use of bass staff; sing song about assembly e.g. The day is
bright
iii. draw the bass clef on the staff.
9-10MELODIC PATTERNS OF
TRADITIONAL SONG
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. Identify and explain melodic pattern of a music;
ii. create exercise, using the modulator;
iii. compare a simple melody using solfa.
