About History Scheme of Work for Primary 2

Nigerian History in Primary 2 is a progressive subject that builds upon foundational knowledge to deepen young learners’ understanding of their national heritage, cultural diversity, and historical consciousness. This newly revised curriculum, effective for the 2025/26 academic session, covers expanded topics including origins and peopling of different states, geography and environment, political developments at state and national levels, and the roles of heroes and heroines in national development.

The newly revised 2025/26 scheme of work ensures a balanced approach, integrating theoretical lessons with practical applications to provide a holistic learning experience that prepares students for more advanced historical studies while fostering patriotic consciousness and responsible citizenship.

Achievement Standards

At the end of Primary 2, students can:

  • Identify indigenous peoples of their state and demonstrate understanding of ethnic diversity and tolerance;
  • Locate major towns and geographical features in their state on simple maps;
  • Recognize heroes and heroines at state level and explain their contributions to development;
  • Describe the functions of local government and show respect for democratic institutions;
  • Demonstrate responsible citizenship through participation in school and community activities.

Assessment Guidelines

Assessment in Nigerian History for Primary 2 typically includes practical activities such as map work, cultural presentations, storytelling about state heroes, and simple research projects about their locality. Students are evaluated on their knowledge of state history and geography, understanding of political structures, ability to show respect for diversity, and demonstration of citizenship values through classroom behavior and community engagement.
