About Cultural and Creative Arts Scheme of Work for Primary 4

Cultural and Creative Art is a subject that is designed to encourage the pupils in building their self confidence in their cultural values and identity. This subject will expose the pupils on how to appreciate their cultural elements and heritage.

The Cultural and Creative Art for basic 4 covers basic aspects such as music, art, drama and dance in which the pupils are expected to know and perfect by the end of this academic session. The educator should introduce the pupils to a worksheet to practice their drawing, crafts, texture and shading.

Some of the topics covered in these subjects are; Definition of drama and theater, definition of dance, classification of art, elements of drama and theater, mode of greeting, foreign musical instrument, features of nigerian traditional dance, principles of design, basic movement in dance, etc.

ii. differentiate between drama and theatre.
iii. List people that are involve in drama and theatre
performance.
4Definition of DanceBy the end of (he lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. explain the meaning of dance,
ii. distinguish features of various material used in the
traditional dance in Nigerian culture.
iii. perform a short traditional dance of any culture in
Nigeria.
5Classification of Art
-Nigerian art works
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. Name some Nigerian ad works with location,
ii. Classify Nigerian art works they have named,
iii. Draw some art works.
6Nigerian Musical instruments and
sounds they produce
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. Identify,’ and name some Nigerian musical instuments
pupils have seen,
ii. classify Nigerian musical instrument from the video
clips,
iii. demonstrate how they produce sound and how they
are played.

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. identify and name some traditional musical
instruments in their tribe,
ii. demonstrate how they can be play and sounds they
produce,
iii. draw, play or describe traditional musical instuments
their culture,

8Basic Movements in danceBy the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. identify steps of dance
ii. state the meaning of time, space, effort and mood in
their choice of dance,
iii. present a short dance performance of their choice of
dance.
9Types of colours and TextureBy tie end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. list all colours they have seen,
ii. arrange colours as in primary and secondary colours,
iii. draw 6 or 12 colour wheel and paint
10Songs/Music with Nigerian identityBy end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. identify some of Nigerian popular art composers,
ii. disünguish the trend of art composers,
iii. develop, combine or create music along with the
Nigerian art composers.
